12 More NY Gas Stations Being Investigated For Alleged Price Gouging

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Enforcement proceedings are being taken against 12 more gas stations in New York for alleged price gouging in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced Thursday.

The gas stations involved in this latest probe include four on Long Island, six in New York City and two in Westchester County.

Among the stations on the list is a Mobil in the Bronx where a customer was told she should be charged $50 for five gallons of gasoline – $10 per gallon -- after waiting in line for over an hour, Schneiderman said.

Stations nearby were charging $3.95 a gallon, according to Schneiderman.

Earlier this month, enforcement proceedings against 13 gas stations were announced. That brings the total number of businesses being investigated to 25.

"Our office will continue to take enforcement actions against price gougers because ripping off New Yorkers is against the law," Schneiderman said in a statement. "There must be no tolerance for unscrupulous individuals who take advantage of New Yorkers trying to rebuild their lives."
