Report: Man Charged With Raping Woman In Chelsea Apartment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens man was charged last week with a rape of a 29-year-old woman in a Chelsea apartment, according to a published report.

Police have not issued a news release on the incident, but the New York Post reported Saturday that Juan Martinez, 33, of Elmhurst, Queens, was accused of attacking the woman on Sept. 28 as she returned to her apartment on 15th Street and was trying to open her door.

Martinez allegedly jumped out from a dark corner and told the woman, "We're going to have sex the easy way or the hard way," before pinning her to the ground, raping her and sodomizing her, the Post reported.

The Post said Martinez was charged with first-degree rape and committing a criminal sexual act, and was being held in jail on Rikers Island on $5,000 bail.
