Prominent Queens Doctor Pleads Guilty To Medicare Fraud

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Queens doctor who also serves as president of two medical clinics in Brooklyn pleaded guilty Monday to an $11.7 million Medicare fraud scheme.

Federal prosecutors said Ho Yon Kim, 86, admitted in U.S. District Court that from March 2007 to October 2011, he conspired with others to persuade Medicare beneficiaries to allow their Medicare numbers be billed for medical services that were never performed.

In exchange, prosecutors said, they provided the beneficiaries with a variety of spa services, including massages, facials, lunches and dancing classes.

Kim faces up to 10 years in prison.

Two other medical doctors charged in the scheme awaited trial as of Monday.
