COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Heading into the final shopping weekend before Christmas, merchants seem hopeful.

WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs On The Story

In Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island, Grace, who runs Whimsey at  the Beauty Tree, said that superstorm Sandy was a big setback.

“We are getting there,” she told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. “When you don’t have electricity for 10-11 days, you’re gonna hurt.”

But the mood is improving, according to shopkeepers.

Patricia Porco of Funny Business Toys in Oyster Bay said she’s expecting “all good things. We get the munchkins out. We get the coffee brewing, the hot chocolate for the weekend. It’s so much fun.”
