NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man has been charged with stabbing a 44-year-old woman to death last weekend in the Bronx.

Maxine Martinez was found stabbed to death to death around 9:20 a.m. this past Sunday at 4436 Baychester Ave. in the Bronx.

She suffered stab wounds to her back and head and was pronounced dead soon afterward at Montefiore North Hospital, police said.

After being identified as a person of interest by police a day after the stabbing, Omar Martinez, 31, of the Melrose section of the Bronx, was charged with murder and manslaughter in connection with the murder.

Police have not indicated a motive for the murder, nor have they said whether the suspect and the victim were related.
