Syracuse LB Marquis Spruill To Sit Some Of Pinstripe Bowl

SYRACUSE (AP) — Starting linebacker Marquis Spruill will not play "a significant portion" of the Pinstripe Bowl against West Virginia after he was arrested this month.

Spruill and running back Steve Rene were arrested Dec. 2 and charged with misdemeanors after scuffling with Syracuse Police.

Coach Doug Marrone did not specify how much of the Pinstripe Bowl that Spruill will miss. The junior is fourth on the team tackles with 62. He is a three-year starter.

Marrone said Rene, who is out with an injury, will be benched for a significant part of the next game he is ready to play.

The Orange (7-5) will play the Mountaineers (7-5) on Dec. 29 at Yankee Stadium.
