RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A teenage girl was hospitalized Wednesday night after either falling or jumping from a school bus in Rutherford, N.J.

The 16-year-old girl, a special needs student from Paterson, was on the school bus on Riverside Avenue Wednesday afternoon when she either fell or jumped from the back, police told 1010 WINS.

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was in the intensive care unit with head trauma, police said.

Further details were not immediately learned. Police Wednesday night were interviewing witnesses to get a clear idea of what happened.
