KINGS PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police said a Long Island man killed his grandmother after they argued over what TV show to watch.

Newcomb's grandmother had taken care of him since he was 3 years old, police said.

"The argument was over what television program to watch," said Suffolk County police spokeswoman Miros Krupa.

Authorities did not know what shows were involved.

Police said Newcomb himself called 911 at about 4:35 a.m. to report the woman was lying on the floor. He told police he had assaulted his grandmother, Krupa said.

Officers said they found her dead.

Police said as of Saturday morning, Newcomb was at a hospital undergoing a psychological evaluation.

Police say Newcomb is unemployed. He faces arraignment Saturday.
