Sunrise Mall In Nassau County Evacuated After Woman Abandons Bags

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Sunrise Mall in Nassau County was evacuated Monday evening, after a woman described as acting "incoherently" dumped two suitcases and a shopping bag in front of a jewelry store and walked away.

WCBS 880 reported the mall was evacuated around 5:45 p.m., and the mall was closed for more than two hours.

Nassau County police said the 31-year-old woman from Amityville was seen acting "in an incoherent manner" by a mall employee before dumping her bags on the floor in front of the jewelry store.

The woman found her way to another part of the mall, where police stopped her and arrested her.

After police learned what she had done, the mall was evacuated and the Arson/Bomb Squad was dispatched.

Around 8 p.m., the packages were determined to contain only the woman's personal belongings. The mall was reopened a short time later.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
