Around The NFL: Pro Bowl Replacements, Kenny Britt To Talk To Cops, Chargers Hire New Coach

By: Danny Cox

While there are only four teams remaining in the hunt for an NFL championship, there is a lot of action going on elsewhere. The San Diego Chargers have the successor (word loosely chosen) for Norv Turner. Kenny Britt is trying to stay out of trouble by talking to the cops. Oh yeah, the possible final Pro Bowl is seeing injured players drop out like flies.

Aaron Rodgers and Calvin Johnson drop out of the Pro Bowl

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has dropped out of the Pro Bowl due to injuries to "multiple lower extremities." He was to be the starting quarterback for the NFC squad, but he didn't pass his year-end physical. No specifics would be revealed at this time, but his injured right ankle "has definitely been a problem."

Eli Manning of the New York Giants will take Rodgers' vacated spot on the NFC roster.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson also will not be going to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, as he is suffering from knee and ankle injuries. There is also some nerve damage to his head and neck that was suffered earlier in the season.

Vincent Jackson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take Johnson's roster spot.

Chances are that a number of other players will need to be replaced before the Pro Bowl actually takes place in less than two weeks. Whichever two teams make it to the Super Bowl, any players they had on the rosters will have to see others step in for them. There are also more injuries to surely come to the surface.

Kenny Britt to meet with cops regarding party stabbing incident

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt will meet with Jersey City, New Jersey police on Wednesday regarding an incident last weekend in which Britt allegedly drove a friend to the hospital. That friend had been stabbed at a party earlier in the night.

Britt's father Jack says that any police reports saying his son has been uncooperative with police are "nonsense."

"Kenny is not running from anyone. He has nothing to hide," Jack Britt told the newspaper. "He is fully cooperating and the police are saying a lot of things that just aren't true. They don't have all the facts. Kenny is going to clear this thing up."

Britt has hired a lawyer for his meeting with the police. Jersey City Police Capt. Edgar Martinez confirms the report that a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, but that nothing will change until he goes in for the meeting. "Kenny Britt is a grown man," said Martinez. "He needs to get here."

Chargers hire Broncos offensive coordinator as their new head coach

Norv Turner's replacement with the San Diego Chargers is now officially in place as Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator Mike McCoy has been hired as head coach. McCoy will officially be announced as the new head coach at a press conference on Wednesday.

McCoy is the second Broncos offensive coordinator to take a head coaching position in the AFC West within the past two seasons. Last year, the Oakland Raiders got former Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as their head coach.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were expected to speak with McCoy before he took the job with San Diego. He had already interviewed with Arizona, Philadelphia, and Chicago. McCoy was scheduled to meet with the Cardinals for a second time on Tuesday, but Chargers' officials picked him up on Monday and took him to San Diego for the interview.
