Barbara Walters Hospitalized Following Fall

WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork) - Veteran television newswoman Barbara Walters has been hospitalized in Washington after falling and cutting her forehead at an inauguration party.

The ABC anchor was at a party at the residence of the British ambassador to the U.S. Saturday night when she fell on a step, ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said.

The 83-year-old was taken to the hospital "out of an abundance of caution'' for treatment of the cut and a full examination, Schneider said Sunday.

Walters is alert "and telling everyone what to do,'' which is "a very positive sign,'' Schenider said.

It remains unclear when Walters may be released from the hospital.
