Diet Dilemma: Mom's Memoir Tells Story Of Putting 7-Year-Old On Diet

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- It  began as a magazine article that prompted widespread outrage.

A mother, Dara-Lynn Weiss, told the world why she put her 7-year-old daughter on a strict diet for a piece in Vogue magazine.

After a doctor had labeled her 4'4', 93 pound girl as obese, Weiss knew she had to do something to keep her daughter healthy.

Now, she explains her decision in her memoir, The Heavy.

"She's presented in the book as the hero of the story," Weiss said of her daughter, Bea. "I find she's an inspiration, and I'm so proud of what she's able to achieve against all odds."
