Bloomberg Loses His Cool During Questioning Over His Role In 'Fashion-Gate'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg got fired up Thursday in response to controversial comments he allegedly made, including one about City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Or was he just offering candid fashion advice to the woman who wants to replace him at City Hall?

Bloomberg irately denied having a potty mouth, and making a sexually suggestive comment about a woman in a tight gown at a recent party.

"Look at the ass on her," the mayor is quoted as saying in a New York Magazine article.

"I never said it. I don't know where it came from. Next question, miss," Bloomberg told reporters.

But the "miss" he called on was CBS 2's Marcia Kramer, and he wasn't exactly thrilled with her question about fashion advice he gave possible successor Quinn -- about coloring her hair more often and not wearing comfortable shoes.

That led to the following exchange:

Kramer: "I just wondered why you've become the fashion police, giving Christine Quinn advice about wearing high heels and getting her roots done."

Bloomberg: "Miss, she asked me … umm… when we have a conversation and joke about it. There's nothing wrong with that. Chris Quinn is somebody who's really done a lot for this city."

So how do voters feel about Bloomberg becoming the Oscar de la Renta of the mayoral race.

"Hahaha, I'm sorry. Hahaha," said Kathleen Pierce of Greenwich Village. "That's dumb ... It's one of those spots where he's an idiot."

"That was funny. I liked that comment. It's a great comment. It was really funny," added Bunny Hirsch of Washington Heights.

"Oh my God, just look your best all the time," Kyle Szpyrka of Bushwick said.

"He should be worrying about the city, instead of worrying about somebody else's fashion," added Basilio Griffith of Hamilton Beach.

Quinn issued a statement saying she and the mayor are two tough, outspoken New Yorkers who engage in healthy banter.

"By the way, did you notice the hideous tie the mayor was wearing today?' Quinn said.

Actually, a bigger fashion faux pas may have been the pink sweater Bloomberg wore to the West Indian Day Parade in 2009. The mayor has quite a collection of wild, colored sweaters, including when he wore a white American flag sweater to kiss Lady Gaga on New Year's in 2011.
