HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Police on Long Island have arrested a woman's estranged husband after she was found fatally shot in her Hempstead home, authorities said Thursday.

Police said Lenny Reed arrived at his estranged wife's home on Roosevelt Street around 2 p.m., shot her and injured another woman who was in the house.

Reed then shot at officers who were responding to the scene, authorities said.

Friends of the victim have identified her as Diane Parker, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

"I just heard a lot of gunfire, a whole lot of gunfire," a neighbor told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Authorities said an officer shot Reed in the ribcage. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Hall reported.

The second woman inside the house, a relative of the victim, also suffered a non-life threatening wound.

Parker had an order of protection against Reed, police said. The victim's family said she suffered years of abuse.

"He was no good, he was nothing but trouble, but you know love is blind," a relative of the victim told Hall. "All I can tell you is she didn't deserve this. That's all I can tell you right now, I'm in such shock right now I'm at a loss for words."

The victim had an 18-year-old daughter, the relative said.

No police officers were injured in the incident.
