15-Year-Old Shooting Suspect Arrested Near Hamilton Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a teenager was arrested in connection to a shooting on Amsterdam Avenue early Sunday morning.

Officer Efrain Santiago was near the 26th Precinct station house just after midnight when he heard gunshots and saw four people running. After a pursuit, Santiago was able to detain a 15-year-old who allegedly began to physically resist. Police say that the teenager was in possession of a loaded and defaced Bryco Arms .380 caliber firearm.

Police later discovered a 22-year-old who had been shot twice in the leg near 1420 Amsterdam Avenue, in the Manhattanville Houses public housing development.  The victim identified the teen as one of the group involved in the shooting.

The 15-year-old was charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of a defaced firearm, felony assault and resisting arrest.

The victim was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and is in stable condition. The shooting investigation is ongoing.
