Islanders' Center John Tavares Named NHL's First Star Of The Week

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – On the back of steady production and clutch goal-scoring, Islander's center John Tavares earned the NHL's First Star of the Week.

Tavares racked up seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in three games against the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. His shootout goal against Rangers goalie Martin Biron was the clincher on Valentine's Day. Johnny T's hat trick against the Devils was the fourth of his career.

The fourth-year center was the first overall selection in the 2009 NHL draft and leads the Isles (6-7-1) with 20 points so far in the lockout shortened season.  He enters Monday's game against the Flyers on a five-game goal scoring streak and has netted 11 goals in his past 10 games.
