Taxi Riders Pick Their Oscar Favorites

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Who will be the big winners at this weekend's Academy Awards?

The results are in from the Taxi & Limousine Commission.

For the past month, the TLC polled thousands of taxi passengers about their Oscar picks.

"There are few things that New York City loves more than its movies and its taxicabs," said commissioner David Yassky, "and people really enjoyed the combination of the two in this survey."

In the Best Picture category, 25 percent of more than 27,000 riders predicted that Steven Spielberg's historical drama "Lincoln" would take top honors, followed by Kathryn Bigelow's chronicle of the hunt for Osama bin Laden "Zero Dark Thirty."

Daniel Day-Lewis earned a top prediction in the Best Actor category with 43 percent of the 19,865 votes cast, followed by Hugh Jackman at 22 percent for his performance in "Les Miserables."

Jessica Chastain topped the Best Actress field with 33 percent of the 19,231 votes cast for "Zero Dark Thirty" with Jennifer Lawrence running a close second at 30 percent in "Silver Linings Playbook."

Spielberg is predicted to get the Best Director award for "Lincoln" with 42 percent of the 14,337 votes cast, with "Life if Pi" director Ang Lee coming in second with 30 percent.

The Oscars will be held Feb. 24.
