Authorities: Body Found Floating In Connecticut River, No Foul Play Suspected

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) -- Authorities say firefighters have recovered a body that was found floating in the Connecticut River in Middletown.

Middletown police say investigators suspect no foul play at this time. A kayaker called emergency workers to report that she saw a body in the river Saturday morning.

Police officers who responded found the body near the shoreline just south of the Cromwell line, adjacent to Rt. 9 North. Officers were unable to recover the body because it was located down a steep embankment.

Firefighters who also responded to the scene were able to hoist the body up the embankment to Rt. 9 nearly an hour after the kayaker called police.

Police have made an initial identification, but the man's identity is being withheld pending a positive identification.
