Annual Creative Cups Breast Cancer Fundraising Auction Under Two Weeks Away

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Coming up on March 14 is Creative Cups, the very different, very splashy fundraiser to benefit the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline.

People design special bras which are then auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the hotline.

Organizer Lyn Dobrin told WCBS 880's Pat Farnack about some of this year's entrants, which are decorated in special ways to honor breast cancer survivors.

"We have Dr. Barry Douglas from Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, one of our sponsors, and he's done the 'Algebra.' It's very very clever," Dobrin said. "And then Pat Battle, who is a breast cancer survivor, has made a floral bra with her daughter and she's calling it the 'Glittering Garden of Hope.'

Dobrin said a lot of men have made bras this year.

"We've got Dave Jones, who is a detailer at Mid Island Collision, another sponsor, and does things with spoons," she said, adding that his wife had breast cancer.

She said people get their inspiration from a lot of different places.

The event is March 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ruth S. Harley University Center at Adelphi University in Garden City. To attend or see some of the entries, click HERE.
