L.I. Pets Up For Adoption On 'Luck Of The Irish' Weekend

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some pets on Long Island are hoping some of that luck of the Irish helps them get into a new home this weekend.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, the pets are already spayed and neutered, have all their shots, and are ready to go home with someone at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter "Luck of the Irish" weekend.

"We have beagles, we have American Staffordshire terriers, we have lab mixes; I believe we have a cockapoo right now," said shelter director Maureen Schneider. "We have close to 200 dogs."

The adoption fee is cut in half for this St. Patrick's Day weekend.

"We're hoping the luck of the Irish will rub off on our dogs and they'll get adopted," Schneider said.

Schneider said sometimes our pets need to be rescued, and sometimes they need us.

The shelter is located at 300 Horseblock Rd. in Brookhaven.
