Coast Guard Suspends Search For Man Missing Off Coney Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man missing off the coast of Coney Island.

The Coast Guard announced the suspension as of 11 a.m. after 16 hours of searching a 52-square mile area with no results.

According to police, a man dressed in all black entered the water around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and was last seen going under.

New York City's police and fire departments launched marine, aviation and land units to search for the man. Divers also joined in the search effort.

Two Coast Guard search boats were launched from Staten Island and a rescue helicopter from Atlantic City, N.J. joined in to assist in the effort.
