Report: Body Found After Boat Sinks In New Jersey Reservoir

CLINTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man's body was found 70 feet below the surface in a northwest New Jersey reservoir Monday after a boat sank, according to published reports.

The Hunderton County Democrat reported the man appeared to have been a New York State resident who had been fishing from a canoe-like small watercraft.

Earlier reports indicated that two people were seen swimming around 11:45 a.m. Monday after their boat began to sink in Round Valley Reservoir in Clinton Township, about 30 miles north of Trenton, officials said.

But later reports indicated that only one person was missing, the newspaper reported.

The water was 43 degrees Monday, the paper reported.

A firefighter was killed in the same area last week after being struck by a vehicle during a controlled burn that produced heavy smoke and reduced visibility.
