Tour Group Launches Cupcake Crawls Across Manhattan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Whatever your interest, you can find a tour in New York City that feeds it – in some cases, literally so.

The latest tour to hit the headlines is a cupcake crawl, launched by SugarTooth Tours, which beginning Wednesday will take cupcake lovers to an assortment of special spots.

"New York City has been having a love affair with the cupcake ever since 'Sex and the City's' Carrie Bradshaw stopped into Magnolia Bakery to devour the yummy treat. The rest is red velvet cupcake history!" SugarTooth Tours said in a news release.

And if cupcakes make you think of the Entenmann's display case at your local grocery store, you have another thing coming, tour organizers said.

"We're in the West Village – we go to Sweet Revenge, we go to Molly's Cupcakes. In Chelsea, we're going to City Cakes and Billy's Bakery. And you have to come on the tour to find out what the rest of them are, but we switch it up once in a while to keep things fresh," SugarTooth Tours founder Sarah Rolleston told 1010 WINS. "But we're really going to the best local spots in the city."

Tickets for the tour are $50 and include all six tastings. Guests must also bring or buy their own Metropolitan Transportation Authority transit cards, as public transportation is used to shuttle participants between cupcake stops, the release said.

Tours will run most Sunday and Wednesday afternoons. They are limited to groups of three to 16 people.

SugarTooth tours also holds a "Find Heaven in Hell's Kitchen" dessert tour, and a "Summer Ice Cream Sundays" tour during the warmer months.

Another group, Manhattan Walking Tours, has also held Cupcake Crawls in the past on the East Village and Lower East Side.
