Former Pro Volleyball Player Gabrielle Reece Sparks Controversy With New Book

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- Forget the fairy tale.

That's the message Gabrielle Reece sends in her new book, 'My Foot Is Too Big For The Glass Slipper.'

The TV star, model and former pro volleyball player says her seemingly charmed life - gorgeous husband, beautiful kids and home in Hawaii - is full of the same challenges many women face.

The book is already making headlines with this controversial quote:

"To truly be feminine means being soft, receptive and - look out, here it comes - submissive."

Reece said the comment has caused serious backlash - but she's not backing down. According to her, people are taking it the wrong way.

"The whole book is about being self defined and trying to figure out ways to stay happy and being powerful," she said.  "Service, the idea of serving others within your home or within your community, takes a source of strength."

This isn't the truth, Reece said. It's a truth.

"I think we have a lot of truths in the world," she said. "It's like health and fitness. I always say, 'there's a lot of ways to get it done.'"
