Head-On Crash Happened Friday Evening On Commack Road

DEER PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Suffolk County police on Saturday were investigating a head-on crash that left two man dead, and a woman and child critically injured, in Deer Park.

The accident happened around 6:35 p.m. Friday on Commack Road in the Long Island town. Robert Fattibene, 53, of Smithtown, was headed north on the road in a Dodge Durango when he crossed over to the southbound lane and hit a 1999 Nissan Altima driven by Herver Leonel Garcia Munoz, 32 , of Brentwood.

Fattibene and Munoz were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Nissan – Yesenia Marilu Martinez Vasquez, 24 – was taken by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. The couple’s 3-year-old son, Justin Martinez, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

Both the mother and child were listed in critical condition, police said.

The vehicles were taken in and impounded for safety checks. The investigation continued Saturday morning, and anyone with information was asked to call the Suffolk County police First Squad at (631) 854-8152.
