Woman Shot Outside Bar Where Jersey City Mayor Was Attending Event

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A woman was recovering Sunday after being shot outside a Jersey City bar where Mayor Jerramiah Healy was attending a political event at the time.

The woman was shot Saturday evening in front of the PNK Tavern, at 97 Mallory Ave. in Jersey City, which was hosting a meet-and-greet for Council candidate Gerald Meyer, according to a Jersey Journal report.

Councilwoman Viola Richardson was also at the event.

Investigators said three men fled the scene after shots were fired. Capt. Edgar Martinez tells The Jersey Journal police have been investigating reports the men may have been arguing with another person before the shooting.

The wounded woman was not believed to have been the target.

Healy said he visited the woman in the hospital and expressed his commitment to a thorough investigation.
