Tornado Warning Issued, Dropped For Parts Of Tri-State Area
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A tornado warning was issued Tuesday for parts of the Tri-State Area, and a spotter reported that a tornado touched down upstate.
CBS 2's Lonnie Quinn reported four different systems came together to generate a storm capable of producing tornadoes. Thus, a tornado warning was issued for parts of Dutchess County, N.Y., and Litchfield County, Conn., Tuesday evening.
The warning had expired by 6 p.m. for those areas, but continued for Cayuga, Seneca and Yates counties in upstate New York until 6:30 p.m.
A spotter reported that a tornado did touch down near Copake Lake in Columbia County upstate, but no touchdown had been confirmed as of 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service advised anyone in the path of the tornado to seek shelter in a basement or an interior room away from windows.
