Disappointed Lundqvist Expected More From Eliminated Rangers

BOSTON (CBSNewYork) -- Another season is in the books and it's a familiar story for 31-year-old New York Rangers' goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.

With each passing year, his window to win an elusive Stanley Cup shrinks. Lundqvist expected this team to go further and spoke of his disappointment after the Rangers were eliminated on Saturday night at TD Garden.

"I expected more from us, and I hoped for more," Lundqvist said. "Right now, it's just an empty feeling, and disappointment. Some years you don't really have a chance to go that far in the playoffs, you just battle hard. I think this year, we had a pretty good team but there were a few games when we didn't reach our top level. When you play a team like Boston, it's going to be tough to beat them."

Lundqvist tweeted the following on his journey back to New York:

"On our way home to NY. Season ended way too early." Lundqvist tweeted. "I want to take this opportunity to thank all the Ranger fans for all the support! It will be couple of tough weeks to get over this. I will analyze, reflect and try to learn from this season. Lastly, even if it hurts right now, it's been a fun ride this year. A lot of great moments."

It would be difficult to place any blame for the Rangers' exit on Lundqvist's shoulders. His .934 save percentage was fourth-highest among goalies in the 2013 NHL playoffs and his goals against average was 2.14.

Unfortunately for Lundqvist, his teammates in front of him only managed 2.17 goals per game and were a woeful 9.1 percent on the power play this playoffs.

The player teammates and fans call "King Henrik" is still waiting for his crown. It's up to the Rangers organization to finally reward their sensational goalie with the kind of teammates around him that are capable of helping him lift the Stanley Cup.
