Amanda Bynes Suing NYPD Over 'Mistaken Arrest'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Days after being arrested for allegedly smoking marijuana and throwing a bong out the window of her apartment, former child star Amanda Bynes has taken to Twitter to announce she's suing the NYPD.

Bynes was arrested Thursday night after a doorman at her Midtown apartment building called police to complain that Bynes was rolling and smoking a joint in the lobby, according to police.

When officers got up to her 36th floor apartment, police said they saw heavy smoke and a marijuana bong sitting on the kitchen counter. Police said she then tossed the bong out the window in front of them, according to prosecutors.

Bynes was taken for a mental evaluation before being held in police custody overnight.

She's been charged with reckless endangerment, attempted tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of marijuana. No bong was recovered from outside her apartment, according to prosecutors.

Following a Friday court appearance, Bynes posted on Twitter that an officer sexually harassed her during the incident at her West 47th Street apartment. Internal Affairs was reviewing that claim.

She is due back in court on July 9.

On Monday, Bynes posted a lengthy note, reading in part:

"For once and for all, this is the last thing I'll say about the mistaken arrest. I'm suing NYPD for illegally entering my apartment, lying about drugs on me and lying about me tampering with non existent drug paraphernalia, then I'm suing for being put into a mental hospital against my will, then locked up overnight for coming home after a facial and working out with my trainer like the good girl that I am. I'm allergic to alcohol and drugs and don't partake in any of the above."

Bynes went on to write:

"My lawyer and I are taking this offense so seriously! Everything they did was against the law and The judge saw that there was no drugs on me or proof of any type of bong or mental illness (I was so offended to even be taken to a mental hospital and they would not let me call my lawyer until the next day after being in jail all night, then I went to court and was immediately released because the judge saw that I was wrongly arrested. The cops found no proof of any type of drug use or evidence of drug paraphernalia such as a bong in or around my apartment) I'm also suing my apartment complex for lying about me smoking in my building."

At the end of her Twitter rant, Bynes added that she's going to get a nose job and is looking forward to a "long and wonderful career as a singer/rapper!"

The troubled actress rose to fame a decade ago as a major star on Nickelodeon. She has also starred in several films, including 2010′s "Easy A."

Bynes has recently garnered national attention for posting odd videos and racy pictures on Twitter.

She has other criminal charges pending against her, in addition to the charges she now faces. She is due in court next week for an arrest from April 2012 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Bynes is also on three years probation for driving with a suspended license.
