Man, 23, Shot Dead In Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was shot and killed just before midnight Friday night in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, just steps from the Pratt Institute campus.

Police responded at 11:53 p.m. Friday to the junction of Myrtle and Grand avenues in Brooklyn, and found the 23-year-old man lying with a gunshot wound to the right armpit.

The victim was taken to the Brooklyn Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim's identity had not been released as of midday Saturday. The investigation was ongoing, and no one was reported in custody.

The incident happened just a few hours after an 11-year-old girl was shot and seriously wounded in the nearby Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.

Kane Cooper, 17, has been charged with firing the shots in that incident at Gates and Throop avenues around 8:30 p.m. Friday. The girl was not the intended target, police said.
