One Man's Trash: MTA Auctions Off Lost, Surplus Items Online

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As the idiom goes, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is hoping New Yorkers believe that to be true.

The MTA is selling items lost in the New York City transit system in an online auction set to end this Friday, June 7.

According the MTA's Asset Recovery site, each month the MTA puts its bounty, called "Surplus Sales," online for New York City residents to sift through including electronics, musical instruments, jewelry and household items for the taking.

Listings for this month have been in effect since May 10, the Surplus Sales Listing reads.

Those interested in obtaining lost items can mail or fax their best offer to the MTA or call 1(800) 543-VALU.
