PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A threat has prompted a suburban New York school district to relocate an upcoming high school graduation ceremony.

Officials decided to move the ceremony from the Peekskill High School parade field to the Paramount Theatre as a precaution after a "credible threat aimed at the graduation ceremonies" was received, superintendent James Willis wrote on the Peekskill City School District website.

"We have every confidence in our security staff and the Peekskill city police that these wonderful graduation ceremonies will take place without incident," Willis wrote. "We all recognize the longstanding history of the outdoor high school location for graduation, but in today's society, we also know that taking precautionary steps to ensure safety is the wise thing."

Details of the threat have not been disclosed, but Willis said it has been addressed by the Peekskill Police Department.

"Our focus is to provide the safety and security that allows our graduating students and their families to cherish this once-in-a-lifetime event," Willis said.

The graduation is scheduled for June 23.

Willis stated the Paramount has been "very accommodating for both price and last-minute arrangements."
