Man, Woman Struck, Injured By SUV In Brooklyn Hit-And-Run

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man and woman were injured Sunday afternoon when a driver plowed right into them, and sped off afterward, in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

As 1010 WINS' Gene Michaels reported, some of their Sunday afternoon sitting on the front steps of their home at the corner of DuMont Avenue and Hinsdale Street.

All of a sudden, a big gold sport-utility vehicle came speeding down the street – right through their wrought iron fence and onto those very steps, crushing the man's leg underneath. They were both taken to an area hospital.

Juan has been a friend of the man's for a long time, and he heard the crash.

"I was in the window when it happened," Juan said. "The guy opened the door of the truck, jumped out of the truck, and jumped out the front, and ran away."

After the driver took off, police came down the street. When an officer noticed the broken fence and the truck in the yard, the officer backed up and took off after the driver.

But the officer did not catch the driver, for whom police were still searching Sunday night.
