FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Veteran tight end Kellen Winslow and wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker will get tryouts with the New York Jets on Tuesday during their minicamp.
Winslow barely played last season, making just one reception for New England in one game. He spent his first four seasons in Cleveland, making the Pro Bowl in 2007. Winslow then joined Tampa Bay for three seasons.READ MORE: Wild Roll To Win Against Devils
When the Jets begin minicamp, Winslow will be competing with Jeff Cumberland, Konrad Reuland, Hayden Smith, Chris Pantale and Mike Shanahan to win the number one slot on the Jets’ depth chart at tight end.
The 29-year-old Winslow is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow. He has 438 career catches for 4,848 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Sims-Walker, who last played for Jacksonville in 2011, has 134 career catches for 1,798 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was a third-round draft pick of the Jaguars in 2008 and spent his first three seasons with them.
He signed with St. Louis as a free agent in 2011, playing in four games before being released and then re-signed by Jacksonville. Sims-Walker played in two games for the Jaguars before being placed on injured reserve, and later released. The Jets are also giving veteran defensive lineman Leger Douzable a tryout next week. He has 57 tackles and one career sack while playing for six teams in five seasons.
Also receiving tryouts with the Jets are undrafted free agents Mark Jackson, a tackle from Glenville State, and Mason Robinson, a cornerback from Rutgers.
