NY Blood Center Issues Call For Donors

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - The New York Blood Center is putting out a request for universal donors during the summer vacation season.

O-negative blood can be transfused into anyone when there is no time for blood typing.

Blood Center Vice President Rob Purvis says supplies tend to dwindle when schools let out and people go on vacation.

The blood center is used by hospitals that serve about 20 million people in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and New Jersey. Its area also includes parts of Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
