Police: L.I. 13-Year-Old Boy Stabs Mom's Ex-Boyfriend To Death In Domestic Dispute

MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating a domestic dispute that officials said ended with a teen fatally stabbing his mother's ex-boyfriend in Mastic Beach.

The incident happened at a home on Selden Road around 3:45 a.m. Monday.

"An armed intruder, who turned out to be an ex-boyfriend of a female occupant of the house, entered the home and engaged in a physical confrontation with the female victim and her new boyfriend," Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick told 1010 WINS.

Police identified the intruder as Norman Shields, 48.

Shields then took out a gun and began assaulting the woman, identified as Natasha Bivens, 31, police said.

Bivens' son then stabbed Shields, who was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where he died, police said. The 13-year-old boy is not being identified due to his age.

Bivens and Shields's 4-year-old daughter was in the house at the time but was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
