Aspiring U.S. Marine Stabbed To Death In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Danthony McDonald was going to be a U.S. Marine, putting his life on the line for his country.

But it was the streets of New York that took McDonald's life – one day before his 20th birthday.

McDonald was stabbed shortly after 9 p.m. Friday in front of 128-15 Linden Blvd. in the South Ozone Park section of Queens, 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported. He was wounded in the chest, police said.

McDonald was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On Saturday, McDonald's father, Eric Anderson, was beyond consolation.

"I know they took my boy away from me. They stabbed him in his heart," Anderson said. "And he was a good boy. The world is not a good place right now. It's missing a good boy."

Balloons had been set up outside the family's home to celebrate McDonald's, birthday. But now, they only symbolize tragedy.

Anderson implored his son's friends not to try to seek justice on their own. Rather, he said, they should pray for Danthony and his family.

No one was in custody in the deadly stabbing as of Saturday evening.
