Bad Back Sends Yankees Infielder Youkilis On The DL Again

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Kevin Youkilis has landed on the disabled list once again following a recurrence of a nagging back injury.

"Basically I have the feeling of when you fall asleep on something, that feeling on my foot, my calf area," Youkilis told MLB.com. "So we're basically going to get it checked out, make sure it's nothing serious."

Through 28 games, Youkilis has struggled in his first season as a Yankee after signing a 1-year, $12 million contract during the offseason. He is batting .219 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs in 105 at-bats.

He was activated from the DL on May 31. Since returning, Youkilis has only recorded five hits in 41 at-bats.

The Yankees have also sent Adam Warren to Triple-A Scranton and have purchased the contracts of outfielder Thomas Neal and right-handed pitcher Chris Bootcheck. Both appeared in Friday's 5-2 loss. Eduardo Nunez has been transfered to the 60-day DL.
