Manhole Explosion Rocks Midtown East

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A manhole fire caused quite a scare Saturday evening in Midtown East.

The manhole was rocked by an explosion around 9 p.m. Saturday near East 50th Street and Second Avenue, officials said.

At least one car was seriously damaged, but no one was injured, officials said.

The FDNY told CBS 2 the explosion was sparked by a transformer fire.

Con Edison was dispatched to the scene, and had taken over for repairs as of 11 p.m. Saturday.
