Man, Woman Dead In Murder-Suicide On Upper West Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man and woman were found dead Sunday in an Upper West Side apartment, in what police said was a murder-suicide.

Police were called around 11:15 a.m. Sunday to the building at 319 W. 94th St., at Riverside Drive, for a call of an unconscious man and woman.

The man – Edwin Rodriguez, 58; and the woman, Florenciana Martinez, 44 – were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police told WCBS 880 the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. A New York Post report added that Martinez and Rodriguez were a found by Martinez's 19-year-old son in the single-room occupancy building.

Rodriguez was found with a belt around his neck, while Martinez – his girlfriend – was found on the floor with trauma to the face, the newspaper reported.

Sources told the newspaper Rodriguez was married to another woman, but spent time with Martinez at the apartment.
