New Jersey Teen Accused Of Molesting 3-Year-Old Boy

LEONIA, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A teenage suspect has been charged with molesting a 3-year-old boy in Leonia, N.J.

Darius E. Levine, 18, of Leonia, has been charged with sexual assault by sexual contact, in connection with the incident, which reportedly happened in the Leonia fire station.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli's office said in a news release that Levine was arrested after authorities learned he had engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with the toddler, who was described in the release as an "acquaintance."

"The child disclosed to his father what had occurred, after which the Leonia Police Department was contacted and an investigation ensued resulting in the arrest of Mr. Levine," the release said.

But Levine's parents said their son suffers from physical and mental disabilities, and "did not understand what he was doing," according to a NorthJersey.com report.

Levine's parents have reached out to the boy's family to express remorse, the paper said.

Levine is the youngest of three special-needs children his parents have adopted, the paper said.

As of Sunday, Levine was being held on $100,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail. His bond does not have a 10 percent option, meaning his family would have to pay the full amount for his release, the paper reported.
