Teen Arrested In Stray Bullet Wounding Of 9-Year-Old Bronx Girl

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that left a 9-year-old girl injured in the Bronx.

Billie James, 17, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon in Friday's incident, police said.

James was riding a bicycle on Bailey Avenue in Kingsbridge when he fired six shots, authorities said.

Amanda Chauan was hit with a stray bullet that grazed her stomach while she was playing with her little brother just steps away from her family's apartment building.

She was released from the hospital Sunday night.

The shooting is the latest in a series of incidents in which innocent children have become victims of gun violence. In May, D'Aja Robinson, 14, was shot and killed while riding a Q-6 Bus home from a sweet 16 party in South Jamaica Queens.

Two weeks ago, Tayloni Mazyck, 11, was paralyzed from the neck down by a stray bullet in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
