Nassau County Park Pools Ready For Summer Season

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Summer started with a splash in Nassau County as officials announced the opening of all county pools for the 2013 season.

"I am delighted to announce all of our parks are open for the summer season," Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano said Friday during a press conference at Wantagh Park.

Mangano said all county park pools will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday, two days earlier than planned.

Many of the county park pools suffered severe damage in superstorm Sandy and have undergone extensive repairs and improvements.

Wantagh Park suffered the most damage, but now, nearly eight months after the storm, there's a brand new water slide at the pool and the marina has been fully restored.

Chief Lifeguard Lisa Dennis welcomed all to the water, but offered some advice to the public.

"We want everybody that comes to the pool to have a great time," Dennis said. "Lifeguards are always on alert, but parents are primarily the people to watch their kids while they're at the pool."

The public is also advised to stay hydrated and wear sun screen, Dennis said.
