MILLBURN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A terrifying home invasion was caught on nanny cam in Millburn, N.J., and the woman who was attacked in front of her 3-year-old daughter remained horrified days later.
As CBS 2’s Don Champion reported, police said the woman was brutally beaten in her own home around 10 a.m. this past Friday. The victim – whom CBS 2 is not identifying – remained extremely traumatized about what happened to her, but she was brave enough to tell CBS 2 her story in hopes of warning other people.READ MORE: Gov. “He brutally beat me in front of my daughter,” the woman sobbed. “She watched the whole thing.”
Video from a hidden nanny camera showed the man who busted through a locked back door into the home of the mother of two. She was making breakfast at the time.
Once he was inside, the mom said the man began viciously beating her, eventually throwing her down a set of stairs.
Her swollen and bloodshot eye and swollen lip were proof the man showed no mercy — not even in front of the woman’s 3 year-old daughter.
“There was no sort of conversation about, ‘Give him some things,’ which I would’ve done,” she said.
Even more frighteningly investigators do not think the man targeted the home.READ MORE: Residents, Elected Officials Fume After George Floyd Statues Vandalized In Brooklyn And Newark
Neighbors such as Victor Alvarez have been keeping a closer eye out, shocked by what happened.
“People walk all the time in the morning, especially, so I’m really surprised by what happened – really, really, really surprised,” Alvarez said.
Investigators describe the man as being black, about 5 feet 11 inches in height, and weighing around 210 pounds. They also said he might have a light salt-and-pepper beard.
Police think the video will be critical in arresting the man.
“This can happen to anyone,” the victim said, “and you know what? If he can break my door down, he’s going to break your door down.”
The man did get away with several pieces of jewelry. The mother spent a day in the hospital and suffered a concussion, but was expected to make a full recovery.
