Police: Man Charged With Attempted Rape In Late Night Central Park Attack
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A man has been arrested for an alleged attempted rape in Central Park, authorities announced.
According to multiple reports, Saul Alvarez, 21, grabbed his would-be victim from behind and covered her mouth as he dragged her into a wooded area near Lasker Pool at the northern edge of the park around 10:45 Friday night.
The female jogger, 29, then reportedly fell to the ground and started screaming.
The suspect then ran off but left behind a piece of clothing at the scene, the New York Post reported.
A passer-by who heard the victim scream called 911 and the woman was able to give police a description of her attacker.
Alvarez was arrested nearby a short time later, according to the Post.
He has been charged with attempted rape and forcible compulsion, according to police.
The woman was treated and released for cuts to her face.
