David Wright Takes Commanding Lead Over Sandoval In All-Star Game Voting

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – David Wright is cruising toward a landslide victory over Pablo Sandoval to become the starting third baseman at the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field. Thanks to eager Mets fans, Wright has opened a 842,186-vote lead over Sandoval.

Barring a huge late push by Sandoval's fans, Wright looks set to start the 2013 All-Star Game at his customary spot at third base in Queens.

His total now stands at 4,452,282 votes.

The six-time All-Star has won the National League fan vote four times. Wright is batting .306 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs through 78 games this season.

WFAN radio's "Boomer & Carton" show has been campaigning hard for Wright to get the start at his home ballpark. First, the show managed to procure the D-Wright bus from Gray Line tours on June 30. Next, there was the "All-Star Sweatshop" with help from The 7 Line -- stuffing the ballot box with tens of thousands of votes last month.

MLB will announce the 2013 All-Star starters on July 6. The game will be played at Citi Field on July 16.
