Eye On Politics: Entrepreneur Jack Hidary Explains Why He Just Joined Mayoral Race

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There's a new candidate running for mayor of New York City.

In Wednesday's Eye On Politics segment, WCBS 880's Steve Scott spoke with independent candidate Jack Hidary.

The Brooklyn-born Hidary attended Columbia University before launching a successful website for job-seekers.

Hidary launched what is now dice.com in 1995 and it was at one point a publicly traded company, according to his official bio.

Hidary said his entrepreneurship has given him the opportunity to learn about job creation and education.

"I have unique among all the candidates...the combination of both business experience - building companies in the growth sector of our economy, but also the public service - the focus on education and helping other people start their own businesses," Hidary told Scott.

Hidary said he has the vision to continue New York City's growth.

"We've had a great run over the past decade, we can now build on that," he told Scott.

Hidary only announced his candidacy on Wednesday but said he is well-known in some communities across the city.

"We decided that now was the time to come into the race because people now understand what their choice is. They've seen what's out there, there are no more candidates coming in. Now we're coming in today to offer people a choice," said Hidary.

Hidary voiced his opposition for an NYPD inspector general, but said the city needs to do a better job of fostering strong relations between the police and communities all across the city.
