Parking Space Sells For $80,000 At Brooklyn Garage

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Parking spaces in a Park Slope garage are going for $80,000, and some neighbors have called the price ridiculous.

As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported Monday, a parking garage on Union Street in Park Slope is closing down, so the price of a spot in the garage condominium across the street is going up.

A parking spot there just sold for $80,000, along with a $240 monthly maintenance fee.

One area woman, "Eileen," owns a car and said she thinks the price is anything but a bargain.

"It's ridiculous," she said. "I mean, you can park on the street for free and get a $40 parking ticket every once in a while."

But another woman, "Leah," said the prices were not out of line with what is to be expected in Park Slope.

"In Brooklyn, that seems normal given the other crazy prices here," she said. "We have a car, and we do street parking."

She said she would rather put the money toward a Long Island beach house.
