City Council Committee Advances Bills For Storm Preparedness
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The City Council Public Safety Committee on Tuesday approved a package of nine bills intended to improve emergency operations in the event of another superstorm striking the area.
As 1010 WINS' Stan Brooks reported, committee chairman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-22nd) said the measures will go a long way to ensure that the next time the city is hit with a storm like Sandy, it will be much better prepared.

"The actions we take today will make us much better prepared for the next severe weather event that hits New York City, and we will absolutely be much safer," he said.
Vallone said there will be no trouble getting the bills passed.
"They will pass almost unanimously, and the mayor – we've worked closely to the mayor – we don't expect him to oppose these at all," he said.
But Vallone said a lot more work still has to be done.
