Carmelo Anthony On Joining Lakers: 'Uh, I Doubt It'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There's been a healthy amount of speculation that New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony might bolt to Los Angeles after the 2013-14 season.

Melo put those rumors to bed in West Hollywood this week.

Sort of.

In a video posted to TMZ.com, Anthony was asked whether he could see himself in the "purple and gold outfit" of the Lakers.

"Uh, I doubt it," Anthony replied. "It's not an outfit, though."

The guy with the camera -- and the endless questions -- wouldn't let up.

"I'm reading between the lines, dude," he said. "I think I'm gonna see you in one soon."

"I don't think you should read between the lines," said Anthony. "I don't think you should do that. That's not good to read between the lines."

Anthony can opt out of his deal with the Knicks on July 1, 2014. The 29-year-old plans to do just that and hit free agency if healthy, according to the New York Daily News.

It's not all doom and gloom. Though the Lakers will have money to spend, Anthony's top choice would be to re-sign with New York, the Daily News reported.
